OFF-STREET LOADING

11-14-1: PURPOSE:

To avoid the hazards to traffic and to pedestrians and the congestion of streets, it is required that spaces in the form of off-street loading areas be provided on the same lot as the building to be served by deliveries of goods, and that such spaces be adequate in size and number to provide the service needed without affecting the other adjacent properties. (Ord. 203, 12-9-1983)

11-14-2: REQUIREMENTS FOR DESIGN:

   A.   Off-street loading berths shall be provided on the same lot as the use it serves and shall not occupy the front yard of the lot.
   B.   No loading berth shall be located closer to a residential zoned lot than fifty feet (50') unless enclosed by a wall or solid fence, or combination thereof, not less than six feet (6') in height.
   C.   Each loading berth shall be designed with access to a street or alley in a manner that does not permit interference with traffic movement.
   D.   Each required loading berth shall be at least ten feet by twenty five feet (10' x 25') in size, and eighteen feet (18') in height.
   E.   Each loading berth shall be improved with a compacted macadam, or better, surface material.
   F.   Spaces for off-street loading berths shall not be considered as satisfying requirements for required off-street parking space, nor shall they be used for vehicle repairs or servicing. (Ord. 203, 12-9-1983)

11-14-3: OFF-STREET LOADING BERTH REQUIREMENTS:

   A.   Off-street loading berths shall be provided in accordance with the requirements that follow. If more than one use is combined in one building or unit development, the total berths that would be required for all such uses shall be provided, the final determination of the number of berths required to be made by the Zoning Official. Where uses are not specifically mentioned in this Chapter, the requirements for off-street loading berths shall be as required by the Zoning Official, using as a guide the most similar use listed below.
   B.   Downtown buildings without off-street loading berths may be changed from one permitted use to another permitted use without strict compliance of this Chapter if determined by the Zoning Official that required berths may be unfeasible. (Ord. 253-99, 10-13-1998)
