- WATER WELLS10
Water wells for lawn and shrubbery sprinkling and irrigation systems require permits. The continued use of any or all wells shall be contingent on the quality of the water encountered. Samples shall be submitted to a state-licensed laboratory for approval of mineral content which would cause odors (hydrogen sulphide test) objectionable to neighboring property owners or occupants or mineral staining (iron content test) of adjacent structures. Written reports of water content for iron and hydrogen sulphide shall be submitted to the Town Building Official. Water supply wells which develop objectionable odors or stain adjacent structures after being in use shall be capped and their use discontinued under the terms of the original permits issued under this Section. On all new wells the testing expense will be borne by the owner. Cost of all subsequent tests will be borne by party or parties requesting such test or tests.
Standards for objectionable odor or stain shall be well water with a mineral content of hydrogen sulphide concentration exceeding 1.0 mg 1 H 2 S or iron concentration exceeding 1.0 meg. 1. No permit shall be issued nor valid for any well water in violation of the standards contained herein.
(Ord. No. 127, 2-25-74; Ord. No. 251, § 1, 11-14-88; Ord. No. 0-09-90, § 2, 8-16-99)
