SECTION 11

Overlay Districts

11.1.1 General Requirements

  1. The Historic Preservation Overlay District is intended to implement the Cultural Resources and Conservation policies of the Starkville Comprehensive Plan. Starkville’s historic neighborhoods provide a visual record of the architectural and social history of the city. They serve as links to the past and their cohesiveness gives them a strong sense of character and community.
  2. All land within the Historic Preservation Overlay District are locally designated historic districts and shall be governed by the provisions under 3.15 Designation of Landmarks, Landmark Sites, and Historic Districts and 3.16 Certificates of Appropriateness and Historic Districts.
  3. The maps of the adopted Local Historic Preservation Districts are maintained by the Planning Department and illustrated on the City of Starkville’s Official Zoning District Map.
  4. The requirements of the underlying base district govern all dimensional standards. While uses are determined by underlying zoning, buildings are determined by the historic overlay.

11.1.2 Greensboro Historic District

The Greensboro Historic District shall consist of portions of Greensboro Street as illustrated on the City of Starkville’s Official Zoning District Map.

11.1.3 Nash Street Historic District

The Nash Street Historic District shall consist of a portion of North Nash Street as illustrated on the City of Starkville’s Official Zoning District Map.
