Sec. 17.04.1

Open burning and outdoor heating units.

This section does not pertain to fire pits, open burning, barbecues, fryers, grills or chimneys. It shall be lawful for the use of outside wood unit/outdoor furnaces within the city under the following terms and conditions:

a.

The unit shall be located with due consideration to the prevailing wind direction, terrain and be no less than 200 feet from any residential home not served by the furnace.

b.

The chimney will have a minimum height of no less than 15 feet.

c.

Only untreated natural wood shall be burned.

d.

Burning of rubbish, garbage, waste oil, asphalt products, treated or painted wood, plastic materials, rubber materials, newspaper or cardboard will not be permitted.

e.

If a complaint is filed, the city will conduct an investigation to determine if additional modifications are needed to the unit. If no additional modifications can be made to the unit, and a health hazard exists, an order to discontinue use will be issued.

f.

Persons wishing to install an outside wood burner within the city must obtain a permit from the zoning administrator and must pay a one-time fee in accordance with the fee schedule kept in the clerk/treasurer's office at city hall.
