00 - SHORT TITLE
The ordinance codified in this title shall be known, cited and referred to as the 2000 Revised Zoning Ordinance of the city of Huron, South Dakota, except as referred to herein, where it shall be known as "this ordinance."

The ordinance codified in this title is adopted for the purpose of accomplishing the following items which are deemed necessary for a growing community and as a guide to proper and future community development:
Item 1. Protecting the public health, safety, morals, comfort, convenience and general welfare of the community;
Item 2. Dividing the city and the designated rural area surrounding Huron into zones and districts restricting and regulating the location, construction, reconstruction, alteration and use of structures and land located therein;
Item 3. Promoting orderly development of the residential, business, industrial, recreational and public areas;
Item 4. Providing for adequate light, air and convenience of access to property by regulating the use of land and buildings and the bulk of buildings in relation to surrounding properties;
Item 5. Limiting congestion in the public rights-of-way and other public areas;
Item 6. Providing for the compatibility of different land uses and the most appropriate use of land throughout the city and the outside the city and under city jurisdiction or in joint jurisdiction with the Beadle County Plan Commission;
Item 7. Providing for the administration and enforcement of the provisions of this title and amendments thereto;
Item 8. Defining the powers and duties of the administrative officers, governing body, plan commission and board of adjustment as provided herein;
Item 9. Prescribing penalties for the violation of the provisions of this chapter or any amendment thereto.
