72 SIGNING
§ 18.72.010 Purpose.
The limitations in this chapter shall apply to signs within the residential districts described in this title. Signing in the commercial districts shall be done in accordance with Chapter 15.12 OMC, the city's uniform sign code regulations.

§ 18.72.020 Exterior signs.
No exterior signs shall be permitted except as expressly authorized under this title.

§ 18.72.030 Sign setbacks.
Signs shall be subject to a setback distance of five feet from any lot line.

§ 18.72.040 Lighted signs.
Any light used to illuminate signs shall be so arranged as to reflect the light away from nearby residential properties, and away from the vision of passing motorists.

§ 18.72.050 Metallic signs.
All metallic surfaces shall be treated in order to reduce the effect of reflection; provided, that reflective signs necessary to protect public safety may be allowed subject to review by the planning commission.

§ 18.72.060 Color and format.
The color or format of signs shall not resemble or conflict with traffic signs or signals.

§ 18.72.070 Maintenance.
Signs shall be maintained in good repair.

§ 18.72.080 Flashing lights.
No signs with flashing lights will be allowed.

§ 18.72.090 Moving parts.
No signs with moving parts will be allowed.

§ 18.72.100 Illumination.
Gas-filled light tubes and incandescent bulbs shall be allowed only when used for indirect illumination in such a manner that the tubes or bulbs are not exposed to public view.

§ 18.72.110 Advertisements.
Pennants, banners and posters may be erected to advertise special events. Such items may be erected no more than two weeks prior to the event and shall be removed within two days following the event. Commercial activities may not be advertised by pennants, banners or posters.

§ 18.72.120 Identification signs.
Identification signs shall identify only the person(s) living on the premises. An identification sign may be a wall sign, a projecting or a freestanding sign.

§ 18.72.130 For sale or rent signs.
For sale or rental signs shall not exceed six square feet in area for a for sale sign and three square feet for advertising the rental of a premises. Only one such sign shall be allowed per premises.

§ 18.72.140 Structural characteristics.
The following structural characteristics shall apply to signs governed by this section:
A.
Freestanding signs shall not exceed 12 feet in height or 10 square feet in sign area;
B.
Projecting signs shall be limited to 10 square feet in sign area and shall not be higher than the eave line or parapet wall of the principal structure and shall not extend over four feet from the building wall;
C.
Wall signs shall be no higher than the eave line or parapet wall of the principal building and no sign part shall extend more than 12 inches from the building wall;
D.
In no case shall the area of the sign exceed 10 square feet.

§ 18.72.150 House numbers.
House numbers shall be a minimum of four inches in height.
