Sec. 30-176.- Special permits.

The board of adjustment may, in appropriate cases and subject to appropriate conditions and safeguards, grant special exceptions to the terms of the district regulations in harmony with their general purpose and intent and in accordance with any general or specific rules herein contained. The board shall issue a special permit authorizing a person to engage in a use described in section 30-177 in the event that a particular special exception is granted. The granting or denial of special exceptions shall be governed by the relevant provisions contained in Article VI of Chapter 7 of this Code.

Sec. 30-177. - Special exceptions.

The special uses for which a special exception may be granted, the specific conditions that must be observed, and the districts in which such uses may be located are as follows:

 (1) Nursery, prekindergarten, kindergarten, play, special and other private schools As prescribed by the board of adjustment Any
 (2) Greenhouses and nurseries not primarily engaged in retail trade As prescribed by the board of adjustment Any
 (3) Heliport and airport Must have prior approval of civil aeronautics administration (Federal Aviation Administration) Any
 (4) Convalescent or rest homes As prescribed by the board of adjustment Any
 (5) Trailer or mobile home parks As prescribed by the board of adjustment C-2-A &

 (6) Drive-in theaters Must be approved by state department of highways and public transportation when on or near a state highway and as prescribed by the board of adjustment C-1
 (7) Two-family dwellings Will not adversely affect or alter character of existing single-family uses in immediate area R-2 & R-S-O
 (8) Clubs, lodges, fraternities and sororities where the chief activity is not a business As prescribed by the board of adjustment R-S & R-S-O
 (9) Sand and gravel pits As prescribed by the board of adjustment Any
