14 - AGRICULTURAL-RURAL DISTRICT
The intensity of permitted use regulations is as follows:
A.
Large animals (e.g. sheep, goats, pigs, cows, horses, llamas, emus, etc.)
1.
One (1) full acre of land shall be required for every two (2) large animals contained;
2.
Barns, paddocks, or stalls shall be set back a minimum of forty (40) feet from all property lines and adequately screened from adjoining properties by landscaping or fencing, as determined by the town;
3.
A minimum of two hundred (200) square feet of barn, paddock or stall space shall be provided for each animal;
4.
Corrals for the keeping of horses shall be sized at a minimum of one thousand (1000) square feet per horse;
5.
The premises shall not be used or operated in any manner that creates a nuisance to the town and/or its residents.
B.
Small animals (e.g. chickens, geese, ducks, etc.)
1.
Poultry houses, poultry yards, hutches and enclosures shall be at least forty (40) feet from all property lines and screened from adjoining properties by landscaping or fencing;
2.
Poultry houses shall be provided with a concrete floor, and walls and a roof sufficient to keep out the elements;
3.
A minimum of four (4) square feet shall be provided for each animal; one (1) nesting box shall be provided for every six (6) animals; nine (9) inches of roost shall be provided for each animal;
4.
A fully enclosed poultry yard shall be provided adjacent to the poultry house. One (1) side of the enclosure may consist of one (1) poultry house wall if the wall is at least six (6) feet high. The remaining sides shall be of welded wire or chicken wire at least six (6) feet high and with a maximum mesh size of two (2) inches.
5.
Four (4) square feet of yard area per animal shall be provided; and
6.
The premises shall not be used or operated in any manner that creates a nuisance to the town and/or its residents.
C.
Rabbits.
1.
Rabbit hutches shall be elevated at least twenty-four (24) inches off the ground and constructed of material to prevent animals and the elements of nature from tipping over the hutches;
2.
The floor of the rabbit hutch shall consist of welded wire one-quarter inch mesh with a removable dropping box situated below the wire in order to catch droppings;
3.
Four (4) square feet shall be provided for each animal, but no more than two (2) adults in any one (1) enclosure;
4.
The premises shall not be used or operated in any manner that creates a nuisance to the town and/or its residents.
