CHAPTER 16

40 - SANITARY SEWERS AND SEPTIC SYSTEMS

16.40.010 - Construction standards.

Where a public wastewater treatment plant and collection system is accessible, or where such facilities are to be constructed as a condition of approval of any application for development, the developer shall construct such wastewater treatment facilities or sanitary sewer lines and building connections in accordance with the design criteria and permit requirements of East Greenwich Township and those of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and in such a manner as to make adequate sewage treatment available to each lot and building within the development.

16.40.020 - Individual sewage systems—Conditions for approval.

Where the soil characteristics of the subject land are of such quality to permit the use of individual subsurface sewage disposal systems as a temporary means of sewage disposal, the same may be approved in the absence of accessibility to a public wastewater treatment plant or the construction of such treatment facilities by the developer.

A.

In the event of approval of the use of individual subsurface sewage disposal systems, the planning board additionally may require the installation of sanitary sewer lines, including connections to each building, for future use when public sewage treatment facilities are provided to serve the realty improvements to be constructed in the development.

The end fitting of all dry sanitary sewer building connection lines shall have a tamper-proof plug or cap, temporarily sealed with a material that can be removed to utilize the fitting when the system is to be activated. The plumbing subcode official or the plumbing inspector shall affix an adhesive backed disc on the cap or plug bearing a pre-printed message and instructions related to tampering and future use, that will be sufficient to alert and warn the original and subsequent occupants of the building. The capping and plugging shall be performed by the developer at his or her expense and the message disc shall be provided and attached by township representatives.
