CHAPTER 17

77 CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR TATTOO AND BODY PIERCING SHOPS

§ 17.77.010 Purpose and intent.

The general purpose and intent of the tattoo establishment regulations are to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare by requiring that all tattoo establishments conform to Los Angeles County health and safety regulations pertaining to tattoo parlors and to city regulations that will minimize impacts to surrounding properties.

§ 17.77.020 Definitions.

For the purpose of this chapter, the words, terms and phrases set forth in this section have been defined and can be found in Chapter 17.04, Definitions, of the Hawthorne Municipal Code.

§ 17.77.030 Applicability.

Tattoo parlors and body piercing facilities, as defined in Chapter 17.04, shall comply with the subject to the development and standards contained in the chapters in which they are permitted in and the development standards of Section 17.77.040.

§ 17.77.040 Development standards.

A. 
Business operating hours shall be limited to the hours between nine a.m. and ten p.m.
B. 
The consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages on the premises is prohibited.
C. 
No tattoo parlor or body piercing facility shall be located within one thousand feet of another tattoo parlor or body piercing facility.
D. 
No tattoo parlor or body piercing facility shall be within six hundred feet of a school.
E. 
All tattoo parlors and body piercing facilities, as defined, are subject to the provisions of Los Angeles County Code Chapter 11.36, Body Art Establishments, as currently written, or as may from time to time be amended, and Los Angeles County Code Environmental Health Regulations Part 1, Chapter 36, Body Art Regulations, as currently written or as may, from time to time, be amended.
F. 
"No loitering" signs shall be posted at the front and rear of a tattoo or body piercing facility.
G. 
Before issuance of a planning clearance and business license from the city of Hawthorne, each person proposing to establish a tattoo parlor or body piercing facility shall provide proof to the planning department that they have obtained a public health facility permit from the county of Los Angeles.
