28 SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL ZONE R-1
The purpose of the R-1 zone is to provide regulated areas for single-family residential use.

The height, size and location of the following permitted signs shall be in accordance with the regulations set forth in Chapter 17.76:

No animals or fowl shall be kept or maintained closer than ten (10) feet from any dwelling, and not closer than forty (40) feet from any dwelling on adjacent lot. Any barn, coop, or enclosure structure for the housing or keeping of animals or fowl shall be kept, constructed or maintained not less than twenty (20) feet from a public street and not less than two feet from any lot line, except for adjoining or adjacent properties that house animals on each side of the fence where one fence, on the property line can be shared. If one or both property owners of the adjoining or adjacent lots disagree with sharing the same fence that is constructed on the property line that houses animals on both sides, an additional fence must be constructed on both properties at least two or more feet from the property line. All animals shall be fenced or contained so as to keep them at least ten (10) feet from the high water marks of Salina Creek and the Sevier River where properties adjoin the same.
Animals must reside in the rear of the lot.
All animals shall be restrained or confined in a barn, corral, stable, coop, pen, or other enclosed structure in which domestic livestock or fowl are housed.
Vaccinations, licenses, and permits shall be obtained as required by Salina City.
Billy goats, pigs or roosters cannot be housed within Salina City limits.
Goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits, geese and ducks are permitted. All other animals must be approved by the Salina City Planning and Zoning Committee.
All yards, barns, shelters, cages, areas, places, and premises where domestic livestock, animals, or fowl are kept shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition so that flies, dust, or odors do not disturb the health of any person or animal or create a nuisance to any adjoining property.
All established animal property setbacks holds precedence to any bordering new development.
A maximum of four animal units are permitted per half (½) acre lot (twenty-one thousand seven hundred eighty (21,780) square feet) or greater.
Animal units are described as:
One unit equals two rabbits; One unit equals five chickens; One unit equals one sheep; One unit equals one goat; One unit equals two ducks; One unit equals one goose.
A maximum of two (2) animal units are permitted per lot less than a half (&half) acre (twenty-one thousand seven hundred eighty (21,780) square feet).
Animal units are described as:
One unit equals two rabbits; One unit equals five chickens; One unit equals one sheep; One unit equals one goat; One unit equals two ducks; One unit equals one goose.

To house a large animal inside Salina City limits, the resident's property must be one acre or greater and be adjacent to county lands, state lands, public lands, or any Salina City Agriculture Zones.

Any barn, coop, or enclosure structure for the housing or keeping of animals or fowl shall be kept, constructed or maintained not less than seventy-five (75) feet from a public street and not less than twenty (20) feet from any lot line. All animals shall be fenced or contained so as to keep them at least ten (10) feet from the high water marks of Salina Creek and the Sevier River where properties adjoin the same.

Fencing must be constructed at least two or more feet from property lines except for adjoining or adjacent properties that house animals on each side of the fence where one fence, on the property line can be shared. If one or both property owners of the adjoining or adjacent lots disagree with sharing the same fence that is constructed on the property line that houses animals on both sides, an additional fence must be constructed on both properties at least two or more feet from the property line.
Written approval must be obtained from all adjacent property owners consenting to animal owner housing any large animal bordering on their property. If no animal is housed on the property within one calendar year the resident must resubmit written approval.
All established animal property setbacks holds precedence to any bordering new development.
