BIORETENTION DESIGN GUIDELINES
The following documents are provided per the reference in Chapter 8, Section 8.11.E.2 Bioretention Areas: "Required parking lot landscaping may be substituted with one or more consolidated bioretention areas (aka 'rain gardens'). Bioretention areas shall be located where it is most practical to capture stormwater, manage parking lot traffic and facilitate pedestrian use, including adjacent to and connecting with vegetated areas on the perimeter of a parking lot. Bioretention areas shall be designed and landscaped to trap and mitigate runoff from paved surfaces consistent with the description and intent of EPA Storm Water Technology Fact Sheet—Bioretention (EPA 832-F-99-012, September 1999;), or equivalent, including NC Cooperative Extension Bulletin, Designing Rain Gardens (Bio-Retention Areas), 2001."
