The Heavy Industrial Zone (I-2) is intended to provide for heavy or intense industries. The zone is designed primarily for manufacturing and fabrication activities, including large-scale or specialized operations having external effects which could have an impact on adjacent, less intense commercial or industrial uses.
1. Permitted Uses. Any industrial, commercial or related use, except the following uses, which are prohibited.
B. Food product manufacture, excluding fish and meats.
C. Concrete mixing, including concrete products manufacture.
D. Contractor’s equipment storage yard.
E. Oil pumping and storage.
F. Production of stone, clay, glass materials, including concrete mixing.
G. Sawmill, including the manufacturing of wood products.
I. Manufacture, compounding, assembling or treatment of articles or merchandise from the following, previously prepared materials such as but not limited to bone, canvas, cellophane, cement, cloth, cork, feathers, felt, fiber, fur, glass, hair, horn, leather, metal, paper, plastics, precious or semi-precious metals or stones, rubber, shell, textiles, tobacco, wax, wire, wood (except logging camps) and yarns.
J. Manufacture, processing and packaging of food and kindred products (except fish, grain milling and processing, stockyards and slaughterhouses).
K. Research, testing and experimental laboratories.
A. Uses listed as provisional uses in the I-1 Zone subject to the requirements indicated.
B. Extraction of sand, gravel and other raw materials subject to the requirements of Section 165.30.
A. Junk yards subject to the requirements of Section 165.30.
C. Slaughterhouses and stockyards, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
D. Distillation of ethanol, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
E. Acid or chemical manufacture or storage, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
F. Cement, lime, gypsum or similar material manufacture, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
G. Explosive manufacture or storage, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
H. Grain elevators, fertilizer manufacturer or storage, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
I. Garbage, offal or dead animal reduction, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.
J. Petroleum refining subject to the requirements of Section 165.42.
K. Rubber goods manufacture, subject to the requirements of Sections 165.42 and 165.43.

E. Maximum Building Bulk:
(1) Height - 45 feet or according to the height regulation specified by the Mason City Municipal Airport Zoning Ordinance, whichever is more restrictive.
